Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai (เชียงใหม่) is located in Northern Thailand about 700 Kms from Bangkok. Chiang Mai was founded in 1296 and was used as the capital of the Lanna kingdom. Chiang Mai was built with defense in mind with a moat and a large wall around the city, both of which can still be seen today. Chiang Mai has a population of about 150,ooo people (just the city) and covers an area of about 40 square kilometers.

Today, Chiang Mai is a major tourist destination within Thailand, famous for both it’s bustling night markets, elephant safaris, and Doi Suthep.
