The Tashilhunpo Monastery (ZhaShenLunbu) (བཀྲ་ཤིས་ལྷུན་པོ་ – 扎什伦布寺) , which is one of four “Yellow hat sect” monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism, was founded by Gedun Drupa (the first Dalai lama) in 1447. In the monastery one can find the stupas of the 5th to the 9th Banchan Lamas and their Chapals. The golden stupa of the 10th Dalai Lama can also be found here as well as the highest sitting Buddha statue in the world. This statue is made of gold and copper alloy. It is one of the more fascinating looking places I saw in Tibet.
