Based in Richmond, which is a suburb or Vancouver, Steveston is a small town that was historically based around a cannery that produced salmon. Steveston was originally named after Menoah Steves who settled there around 1877 and finally named it in 1882 when it became a village. steveston today is a major tourist attraction with fishing boats docking along the fishermans wharf and selling their goods. The land around Steveston, which used to be farmland, is not residential and is one of the more expensive places to live in the lower mainland.
