Pompey's Pillar

This column, wrongly known as Pompey’s Pillar (عمود السواري) is actually built in 297 AD to commemorate the victory of Roman emperor Diocletian over a local revolt in Alexandria. Pompey’s Pillar is almost 27 meters high and consists on a single piece of granite brought from Aswan which is over 1600 kms south.It’s weight is about 285 Tons.
