The old city of Cairo was established in the year 969 AD, which makes it over one thousand years old. Of course, the Old Cairo (مصر القديمة) of today was the Cairo that was established and expanded over the millenia. Today, some of the original old Cairo buildings are still around, and some have been expanded over the years.
