The capital city of Tibet, Lhasa (ལྷ་ས་གྲོང་ཁྱིར། – 拉萨) is the only major airport in the province, and even that is 90 minutes drive from the city, as well as open only during daylight. Lhasa is one of the highest cities in the world (3490 meters) and has a population of about 1.1 million. Going to Lhasa and Tibet really feels like one has gone back in time with the exception of a few giveaways such as monks talking on their mobile phones and internet cafe’s all over Lhasa.
