El Calafate

Situated in the Southern part of Patagonia, El Calafate is mainly a tourist center, with a population of about 22000. El Calafate was founded in 1927 as a shelter for wool traders, and remained this way until 1937 when the Perito Moreno national park was created, after which El Calafate’s focus changed drastically to service tourist needs. El Calafate is located on the edge of Lake Argentina and all El Calafate photos will have the lake showing up in it in one form or another.
