With a population of 300,000, Christchurch is the largest city on the South Island. It is also one of the first settlements on the South Island. Beautiful surroundings.
The city’s principal sight is the cathedral, with a 65 meter spiral that can be seen from anywhere in the square, it is worth a visit to the inside where stained glass and church murals are great eye catchers. This Cathedral was tragically destroyed in 2011 in a major earth quake, the photos of the cathedral below were taken the night before the earth quake, about 14 hours before it was destroyed.
