The capital of Sichuan province, Chengdu (成都) and the surrounding metropolitan area has a population of around 14 million. Because of its location, Chengdu is a stepping stone into Tibet, and is now a central transportation hub within China. It is perhaps most famous for the breeding center for giant Pandas which is located in the suburbs of the city, and is a major attraction.
