Located in the heart of Plaza 9 de Julio in Salta, Argentina, the cathedral of Salta (Catedral de Salta) was built in 1882 at the same site where a previous cathedral was destroyed in an earthquake. The cathedral of Salta is a national monument in Argentina and is protected by that designation. Like many other catholic cathedrals, the cathedral of Salta contains chapels that are dedicated to certain religious or historical figures, including General Martin Miguel de Guemes, Alvarez de Arenales and Rudecindo Alvarado.
