Bull Temple

The Bull Temple (Dodda Basavana Gudi) is dedicated to Nandi, who is a demi-god and is known to be close to Shiva. The Bull statue is carved from a single rock, and is said to be the biggest Nandi statue in the world. The Bull temple was built in 1537, and the statue has turned black from millennia of being rubbed by charcoal and butter.
