Belur (ಬೇಲೂರು) is a town in the state of Karnataka, India. Belur is famous for the Chennakesava Temple (ಶ್ರೀ ಚೆನ್ನಕೇಶವ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ) which is featured on this page.
This temple is amazing. It doesn’t look like much as you approach it from far away, but, as you get closer, you start to notice the carvings, which are just stunning. It is said that all these carvings were made by Jakanachari who is a legendary Indian Carver. However, legend also has it that it took 103 years to complete, so it couldn’t have been completed by one person. Belur is an interesting place to visit on a day trip from Bangalore.
