Al Refaie mosque (مسجد الرفاعي) was built in two phases between 1869 and 1912. Al Refaie mosque holds the shrines of many of Egypt’s royal family, including the last king, King Farouk, who was exiled and spent the last years of his life in Italy, although his shrine is not as interesting. Al Refaie mosque also holds the shrine for the last Shah of Iran who died in Exile in Egypt and was buried there after marrying King Farouk’s daughter.
