Photos from El Refaee Mosque - Cairo - Egypt
El Refaee mosque (on the right) was built in two phases between 1869 and 1912. It holds the shrines of many of Egypt's royal family, including the last king (Farouk). This mosque also holds the shrine for the last Shah of Iran who died in Exile in Egypt and was buried there.
As with other older mosques in Cairo, there are shrines. Top Left: Shrine of Imam ElRefaee, founder of the mosque. Top Right: Shrine of the last Shah of Iran who was buried in Egypt after being exiled from Iran and marrying the daughter o the last king of Egypt. Bottom: Shrine of Kind Fouad (left) and his mother (right). He was the father of King Farouk and was the last king of Egypt to die as a king. King Farouk was the last king, but was also exiled and spent the rest of his life in Italy, he is also buried in this mosque but the shrine is not as interesting.
