Photos from Wadi El Rayyan - Fayoum - Western Desert - Egypt

Wadi El Rayyan is a valley in the middle of the Fayoum desert, that is now totally covered by two gigantic fresh water lakes, the two lakes have different altitudes, and therefore a waterfall was created where they meet. There seems to be no end to this water, and the level of it has gone up at least 5 or 6 meters from when I first went there in 1994 till I left Egypt in '97.

This is the second of the two lakes, just to give you an idea of the size, we were camped and had two cars between the two peaks in the middle of the picture.

The water fall is a great place to swim around, with all this water falling on your head, it's fun.

As in anything in nature, fish showed up in these two lakes, and where fish are, fishermen go.

The landscape around the lakes is magnificent, just watch these pictures.
