Dating back to 3500BC, Memphis is supposed to be the oldest city in the world. It was founded by Menes, and served as Ancient Egypt's capital until it was moved South to Thebes (modern day Luxor).

It the became an important city once more starting from the 25th dynasty.

Today, Memphis is surrounded by fields and deserts, of which, the Pyramids of Giza, Saqqara, and Dahshour are a part.

 

 

Rameses II statue is one of the highlights of Memphis. This statue is huge.
