Photos from Krakow - Poland

One of the oldest and largest cities in Poland, Krakow has been known as one of the leading scientific, cultural and artistic centers of the country. It was once the capital of Poland during it's history of over 100 years. Krakow today has a population of around 800,000. It is a great place to visit when coming to Poland because of the authentic historical buildings and museums.

Like many of Poland's cities, the tram is a practical way to travel around and is dependable as well as unique.

The Vistula river runs through Krakow and is a nice place to walk by the water.

The streets of the old town (Stare Miasto) are mainly renaissance architecture with some other variations throughout the town.

One cannot help but be amazed at the details of the art work (mainly statues) found throughout the streets of Krakow.

The Wawel cathedral is one of the most amazing cathedrals I have ever seen. Over one thousand years old, this cathedral was the coronation site of Poland's monarchs. Of the many chapels within this cathedral, the  Sigismund's Chapel (Kaplica Zygmuntowska) is one of the most famous. The most famous architects and artists in history have contributed to the interior of this cathedral on Wawel hill.

Also on Wawel hill is the Wawel castle, which was home to Poland's rulers during it's prime time.

St Peter and Paul, and St Andrew churches both show amazing architecture and are a delight to look at and explore.
