Photos from Christchurch - South Island - New Zealand
With a population of 300,000, Christchurch is the largest city on the South Island. It is also one of the first settlements on the South Island. Beautiful surroundings.
Taking the gondola to the Christchurch peak, gives a magnificent view of both the city (left), and Lyttleton harbour (right) where the first settlers walked up to the city.
Christchurch has a very friendly city center, it also is full of gardens and parks such as the rose garden above with the Peacock fountain on the right.
The art gallery in Christchurch is huge, with many activities, works of art, and plenty of outdoor space to sit and display art.
The city's principal sight is the cathedral, with a 65 meter spiral that can be seen from anywhere in the square, it is worth a visit to the inside where stained glass and church murals are great eye catchers.
Bridge of remembrance marks the entrance into the city center.
