Photos from BeiJing - China
The capital of China, Beijing is a typical large city within a large country. Over all, like most other cities in China, it is very clean, the architecture is extremely modern, large, and creative all over the city. As of 2004, the city seemed to be a large construction yard, mainly because of preparations for the summer Olympics in 2008.
Two major annoyances were encountered traveling around BeiJing, the first were the Taxi drivers, half of the taxis we took tried to cheat us one way or the other (and they had some very creative methods, one DID cheat us) and none of the many so called "customer service" numbers helped us out. Another 25% of the taxis we took were either very rude, didn't know how to get to where we wanted to go, or just didn't want to go there, needless to say, be careful with taxis in Beijing. The other annoyance was the constant flow of foreign dignitaries and VIP's who seemed to show up at tourist attractions, as a result, these locations would be quickly emptied of tourists who are hastily pushed away into an out of sight location while the foreign VIP's visited the attraction.
Tiananmen arch and square are one of the most recognized views of Beijing and China. Above, the resting place of Chairman Mao has many visitors each day, as well as the daily ceremony of raising and lowering the national flag on this square attracts thousands of people each morning and evening.
Beijing Streets by night, as well as a great panda at the Beijing zoo.
