Aswan is the southern most city in Egypt. Only about 300 Kms from the Sudanese border, it is also the hottest city in Egypt, specially in summer.

The most prominent feature in Aswan is the Aswan high dam which generates a considerable portion of electricity in Egypt using hydroelectric power.

During the construction of the Aswan high dam, many ancient Egyptian sites were flooded, a few, however, were moved as part of an international effort to save ancient Egyptian history in the area.
